Wandsworth Park
At the end of the 19th century, Wandsworth was an industrial and heavily polluted suburb, with an iron mill, brass industry, and brewery. The London County Council thought it was very important to provide more parks and open spaces for the people living there. In 1897, when the LCC heard that the Wandsworth District Board were planning to buy some land near the River Thames to establish the park, they contributed half the cost of the purchase. The design and construction of the park was done by the LCC, and it was opened on the 28th of February 1903.
