Year 2 children used the support
of the Project to learn more
about World War I and Remembrance
Day. Their school stands
directly opposite Wandsworth
Cemetery. Because there
was a hospital nearby, which
took injured soldiers from the
Front in 1916, there are a number
of Australian, Canadian and
New Zealand soldiers buried
in the cemetery.
The children visited the cemetery,
learned about the symbols to
be found on many of the tombstones,
and took rubbings of many of
the regimental badges, and the
names of the soldiers, to take
back to school for display.
Reading the names and ages
on the tombstones made them
all realise how young many soldiers
were, and understand the sacrifices
made by so many people in war.
