Opening the park

Parks have often been opened by important people. Barking Road Recreation Ground was opened in 1908 by a real princess - Her Royal Highness The Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll.

Look at the pictures below of the covers of programmes printed for park opening ceremonies and answer the questions.

What do you like about the design of the programmes?

Find a modern leaflet or programme for an event.
In what ways do the above programmes look different to modern leaflets?

Design a programme

Design a programme for an opening or an event, perhaps a school sports day, a fete, a club meeting, prize giving, or an imaginary event.

Think about what information people will need to know about the event.

  • Where will the event be held?
  • What time will the event start?
  • Who will be there?
  • What is going to happen, when and where?
  • Do people need to bring something?
  • How do they need to dress?
You might like to send us copies of your programmes to display in 'Meet in the Park'. See 'Meet in the Park' for more information.
