Menageries
were popular in
the 18th and 19th
centuries, and often
set up their shows
in local parks.
Bostock and Wombwell’s
Menagerie was very
well known. It traveled
the length and breadth
of the country giving
many people their
first glimpse of
living, wild animals
such as lions, elephants,
giraffes, snakes
and exotic birds.
